Emerson College: Kasteel Well: The Netherlands

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Going to the Kasteel was the best experience of my entire life. When I think back on it, I feel almost heartbroken because I miss it so much. If you're going to go, the only thing you need to be concerned about, is how badly you will miss it. It was absolutely perfect.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The classes are amazing. Taking Art History: Renaissance and Baroque in Europe is, by itself, a great experience. Rob Duckers is the best teacher I've ever had. I've never learned more in a semester, and he makes it so fun and interesting. Getting to go the museums and see all of the statues and paintings that we learned about is so cool. The professors are ALL real characters.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

The Boston campus does an amazing job in terms of organization. They send you enough information (maybe even too much!) to prepare you. The staff at Kasteel Well is also great--they are the kindest people.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

The Kasteel is probably my favorite place on earth. The locals are the best--you'll make friends with them. The Kasteel itself is beautiful. I can't think about it too much, or i'll feel sad, but it's just perfect. Just...everything. I can't get started or I'll never stop. Love the Linden, the Vink, Meermarket. Love it ALL. It's an amazing experience.

* Food:

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

They give you enough time on the weekends to travel. It gets a little much by the end--being with 80ish Emerson kids--so much drama. But overall it's nice to be in such close proximity with your friends.

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? No

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

A Look Back

* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? GO.
