Living and working in DC was wonderful, but The Washington Center was not. Past Review
By A student (Emerson College) - abroad from 08/30/2012 to 12/14/2012 with
Emerson College: Washington, D.C. - The Washington Center
I learned a lot about myself, my preferences, my goals, etc. It was absolutely worthwhile and I have no regrets coming to D.C. in general, but I would not choose to go through the Washington Center again. Their classes were not worth the money, and their faculty was often not helpful.

Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
Most educational experiences were from my internship itself. The Washington Center's programming itself was not rigorous and was not up to Emerson's standards. We are a thoughtful student body, and I don't think we were ever truly made to think. We were never challenged by the Washington Center's programming. |

No
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
D.C. is an expensive city, especially with metro costs and food shopping. Unless your internship is paid, you really need to know how to budget and exist without a meal plan. |

* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? | I wish I had known how easy it was to be accepted. Not all of the students in the program share Emerson work ethic and professionalism. The mix of students here accurately reflects the real world, so I adapted, but I think many of us felt misled by the application process. We were under the impression that this was a program that would intellectually stimulate us and challenge us, and in many cases, it was not such a program. |
