Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 1 month - 6 months

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

It is lacking in this area, i feel that experiential learning was a waste of my precious time. If the class would have focused more in Germany and its culture, it would have been a lot better. Better selection of teacher needed from UIW. the TCNJ teacher was great and the teachers from the international house.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

very helpful, the best ones to go for anything would be Anja and Jason. The are great and a total asset to ESC. It would not be the same with out them

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

the dorm rooms are great, third floor showers need improvement. The kitchen is badly organized, missing stuff to clean, and basic utensils to cook. Cleaning staff will go on stoke if the kitchen is very messy. The house is amazing.

* Food:

the food is great!!

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

Need to improve in this area, could make more events with the international house students and SRH. Mainly with the international house students.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

I was lucky enough that I didn't need a doctor but everyone else said they were great.

* Safety:

Safe, more than the U.S, could walk at anytime of the night or early morning with out any problems. the biggest issue would be that you forgot the key to your dorm.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

it is slightly expensive, since we live in a great city. Food is the most expensive so allocate a big chunk of money towards that. Other than that going out is not as expensive, traveling is cheap but not as cheap as you expect.

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? i would spend like 30 euros every week and a half. i would spend around 50 to 100 euros a weeks.
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? work a lot before you go, so you have a lot of money to experience everything. LIDL and Aldi are cheaper than Rewe

How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? None

What was the highest level language course you had completed prior to departure? 0
How many hours per day did you use the language?
Do you have any tips/advice on the best ways to practice the language for future study abroad participants? Go out with students from the SRH and International House, meet knew people

German 101

Course Department: GER
Instructor: Sophie Areschidze
Instruction Language: English and German
Comments: the class was very challenging, you have to put the time and energy to learn. It is not like classes in the U.S, She will expect you to learn German and fast. All instructions are given in German. Sophie was well prepared and knew what she was doing. Participation is key, graded on exams but will expect you to do the hw. I recommend to do all the hw and pay attention
