Oviedo: I wish I could go back! Past Review
By Danielle F (International Studies/Journalism, University of Oregon) for
GEO: Oviedo - Study Abroad Programs in Oviedo
It's as simple as this, I had no bad days in Spain. I loved the people who were in my group, I still hang out/Skype with people from my group and I plan on going back to Spain ASAP.

Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
The teachers were great and were so helpful. I felt like I learned so much about the language and Spain in general while I was in school. The teachers also know that we are there to learn about Spain and to travel, so the workload was fairly light and allowed for a lot of travel and fun. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
Everything about this program is fantastic. |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
My host mother was AWESOME. She was so respectful of my time and what I wanted to do. I was allowed to travel, I was allowed to come and go as I pleased and I spent a ton of time with her learning about her family and watching Spanish TV. I was in a really nice part of town close to all the shopping and I was about 10 minutes away from all the clubs and bars. |
* Food: |
The food was great. My host mom always had delicious food ready for me, and when I wanted to go on an excursion she always packed me a FEAST! |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
The San Mateo Festival was definitely the best weekend I had in Oviedo, it was a giant party. The trips planned by AHA were so fun. We went to Sevilla and Bilbao and were really treated to a full tour. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
|
* Safety: |
The city was SO CLEAN and thankfully I never had to go to the doctors. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
|
Language

Language acquisition improvement? |
Since we were in an immersion program we spoke Spanish the entire time we were at school and at home with our host families. I spoke English with the other students in the program, but other than that Spanish was my main language. |
