University of Nicosia - Global Semesters: Nicosia - Summer in Cyprus

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I learned how to be independent. And a lot about values I want/dont want in different relationships.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 2 weeks - 1 month

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

Not intensive

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Very accessible and helpful!

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Amazing. Everyone gets a single studio room, personal bathroom, kitchen area, and balcony.

* Food:

Recommendation: Meze-style dinner and Pita Pita (resturaunt in Nicosia)

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

There is so much to do here (historical sites, beaches, art, restaurants, and more), and it is very accessible to travel around the island. There are also a lot of coffee shops, and you will always see people hanging out there.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

I felt safe walking around by myself at all times of the day, obviously following "regular" safety protocols tho.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

There is so much included, the island is so stunning, and the vibes here are so good!

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

It was very easy for me because I did a lot of cooking and groceries are very affordable. Although I will advise, there is no dining hall or meal plan, so if you do not plan on cooking, you might spend more on food if eating out consistently. Restaurants are more affordable here, just not as much as cooking. (You are provided with pots/pans, and other kitchen items)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? ~ 15-40 euros
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? First, if you are planning on cooking (I recommend), I think grocery shopping on a weekly basis is better. You spend less per trip and you use your food better (super fresh products = expire quicker). Second, there are a lot of student discounts, so look into that. For example, for the bus, for the grocery store, etc. Third, book trips you know you'll go on in advance, so the tickets are cheaper. And, rack up the cashback from them on some type of credit card. Fourth, Discover and Amex are not as widely accepted, so make sure to have a Visa/Mastercard card prefably one with no international fees.
