Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

All of my professors were really great at helping us learn the material and adjust to the new teaching style and culture. Each was willing to get to know their students on a personal basis and help us succeed in the classroom. Good level of difficulty: classes were not as difficult as in the States, but that was good because it allowed us time to travel and explore.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

My program director went above and beyond to make sure that I was adjusting well to my new culture and followed up with me throughtout the semester. I really liked the small size of my program because it allowed for personal attention and flexibility so that I could get what I wanted out of my experience.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I was treated as a member of the family. They went above and beyond what was required of them to help me learn Spanish and feel accepted in the culture. I will continue to keep in contact with them the rest of my life!

* Food:

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? Yes
Language acquisition improvement?

I lived with a host family and had a wonderful experience learning Spanish with them. My level of Spanish improved greatly, from not being able to follow a conversation, to participating fully in daily life/conversation.

If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition?

A Look Back

* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? If you are going to go abroad, you have to have an open mind and be ready for anything. Just because something is different than you are used to, doesn't mean its a bad thing. You may be surprised by what you like after you try something new.
