Grinnell College: Washington - Grinnell in Washington

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I learned a lot from Grinnell alumni as they shared their career stories with us. This experience helped me look at my future in a new perspective. Trips to Congress, the White House and museums deepened and broadened my understanding of American politics and the world in general.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

It has been a great semester and a wonderful experience for me since I got to explore DC in depth. Although the workload is quite heavy, the classes are not as rigorous as the ones on campus. I truly enjoyed the discussion-based internship seminar where I learned about other students' fabulous work.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

We had a small group of eight students. I liked it this way for we could engage in intensive discussions in class.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

* Food:

We were responsible for our own food. The food in DC can get quite expensive.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

My favorite event is watching a live performance of Capitol Steps.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

I stayed at a quite safe neighborhood and did not travel much to unfamiliar places, and I felt safe at DC.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)
