Hamline in York: Challenging but I'm still glad I went. Past Review
By Jana A (Studio Art - Painting, Hamline University) for
Hamline University: York - University of York
It was worthwhile for the professional experience I gained as well as the ability to travel around Europe on my own. I'm quite grateful for my independent experiences more so than the program assisted ones.

Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
The faculty and Departments at the University of York that I encountered were extremely helpful and willing to assist international students. The workload was quite a bit more than I was used to and the student led structure of the course was a bit difficult to get used to. However, overall, the academic experience broadened my ability to be flexible in new environments and work in new ways. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |

* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
I was the only international student in a residence hall hosting all first year local students. I had a difficult time with this situation due to the amount of partying and behavior of these students. Additionally the bathrooms and kitchen were extremely dirty and difficult to live with. The hall I was placed in was also one of the farthest away from the main part of campus and the city center. |
* Food: |
Lack of choice, and expensive. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
|
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
|
* Safety: |
The on campus healthcare system was incredibly unhelpful, however the free clinic across town served all my needs. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
No
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
