Incredible! Past Review
By Josiah Denson (Ohio Northern University) - abroad from 07/02/2017 to 07/29/2017 with
Hanyang University: Seoul - International Summer School
I feel like I grew greatly as a person during my trip, and gained an even better perspective of the world and different cultures. Any opportunity to be immersed in another part of the world like that is worthwhile in my opinion, and this was no exception.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
I think that if I had the opportunity to participate in this program again, I would do it in a heartbeat. It was a wildly amazing trip. I would highly suggest it to anyone looking to study abroad. |
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
It was difficult to live on what I would call a student's budget. There were cheaper places to eat and things, but we didn't find them until later in the trip when we were more accustomed to the area and knew what we were looking for. I would definitely say $150-200 per week would be something to prepare for, especially if you plan on getting gifts for friends/relatives. Korea isnt a crazy expensive place, but it's definitely not super cheap either. |
Language
* Did your program have a foreign language component? | Yes |
How much did the program encourage you to use the language?
0 = No encouragement, 5 = frequent encouragement to use the language |
|
How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? | None |
How would you rate your language skills at the end of the program? | Beginner |
Do you have any tips/advice on the best ways to practice the language for future study abroad participants? | Just try your best, they generally appreciate any effort to speak the language, and it's ok if you're bad at it, because the majority of people in Korea speak some English anyway. |
Direct Enrollment/Exchange
* Did you study abroad through an exchange program or did you directly enroll in the foreign university? | Exchange |

A Look Back
* What did you like most about the program? |
|
* What could be improved? |
|
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? | That it would be somewhat expensive, and that we would pretty much all sweat through our clothes on a daily basis. But that isn't that big of a deal, definitely do-able. |
