I learned to appreciate more of what I already have. The entire experience was a wake up call to get my life at home in order. Morgan W - The University of Texas at Austin View Entire Review
I have a better understanding of politics and the relationships between the US and France, as well as a better cultural understanding. I gained more self-confidence to do things on my own and explore. Of course the language improvement was worth it too! B N View Entire Review
I would like to return to France, but stay for a longer time. I am more confident in speaking French. I enjoyed the French lifestyle and would like to incorporate it into my own. Mosettee L - The University of Texas at Austin View Entire Review
Yes it was "worthwhile" I gained an understanding of the type of art I want to create, the views of another culture, and I started learning independence being isolated from everything familiar. Theresa J - Ithaca College View Entire Review
I would do it again in a heartbeat. The sights I saw and people I met is just priceless. Ebe K - Ithaca College View Entire Review
Definitely. I learned how to live abroad, to speak better French, to interact with a different culture and people on their own terms and in their own fashion (literally). While many of my friends are now lamenting their decision to remain at school, I took the initiative, did the paper work, and made it happen. It is an experien... My experience was incredibly worthwhile and I learned to be more confident and culturally aware than I was when I arrived. I discussed politics and culture with all sorts of people and learned not to judge books by their cover. I speak French more easily now and have seen many many beautiful places because of my time abroad. Caitlin P - The University of Texas at Austin View Entire Review
Absolutely worthwhile - I met the greatest people and traveled to beautiful places. We were independent and free to make our own choices at the spur of the moment, while still being responsible and managing for ourselves. I learned so much about the French culture and cannot wait to go back for a longer period of time. EVERYBODY... Virginia H - The University of Texas at Austin View Entire Review
This experience was amazing; I could not have asked for a better summer. I loved getting to know everyone on the program, meeting locals, learning about French language, food, culture, and history. I feel much more culturally aware and my French language skills have vastly improved after completing this program. Julia M - The University of Texas at Austin View Entire Review
It was worth while, and I wish I stayed for a year instead of one semester. Brian C - Ithaca College View Entire Review
Definitely worthwhile. I have been dying to travel to Europe since I was about 10 years old, so this trip was the fulfillment of that dream. I saw sites in France, Italy, and London that I will never forget and feel privileged to have witnessed. When you go abroad, you are totally stripped of everything that defines you- your us... lch1 - Rice University View Entire Review
It was definately worthwhile. I was able to learn things about people and cultures that just isn't possible in a class room or in the United States. CHeag - University of Hartford View Entire Review
Definitely worthwhile. With this program you can fall into speaking English with classmates, but you also have numerous opportunities to interact with locals (through programs offered by the Institute) and your host family. Avignon is also a city with numerous french/international students, so it is an environment where meeting ... Jimbo - Tufts University View Entire Review
About
The School of Humanities and Social Sciences, located in the beautiful old section of Aix-en-Provence, once a medieval village, is the only study abroad center in the region that offers classes in both French and English. The Aix Center prides itself on the diversity of its course offerings in both languages, which enables students with strong French language ability and those with not so strong language ability to gain access to a study abroad experience. The multiple course offerings allow students to fulfill many of their general education requirements and complete major and minor requirements linked to areas in the humanities, social sciences, education, and the arts. Students find courses in subject areas such as psychology, political science, comparative literature, art history, studio art, business, economics, philosophy, education, history, archaeology, civilization, theatre, government and French language from beginning to advanced levels. In addition, students who have an advanced level of French proficiency (at least the equivalent of 4 college semesters of the French language) are eligible to take and transfer credits from the University of Aix-Marseille.
