IES Abroad: Barcelona - Study Abroad with IES Abroad

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
My study abroad experience was more than worth the while. I met some of the most amazing people that I've ever met. I had so much fun, and it taught me a lot about life and myself. It helped me to appreciate the things that we take for granted in America, but at the same time it helped me to get outside of my comfort zone, and try new things. It was an amazing experience and I would recommend it to anyone.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 0-2 weeks

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

I really liked my Spanish educational experience. I felt as if my professors cared more about if I actually understood the material, rather than what my GPA was.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I loved living in an apartment, but if someone wants to become fluent in Spanish I would recommend staying with a host family.

* Food:

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

The cultural experience in Barcelona was amazing. There was so much architecture to see and museums to visit, but there was also a beach and a lot of nightlife. Barcelona is a very vibrant and fun place to be.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

I personally had to go to the emergency room in Spain, due to a staph infection. The healthcare system is very good there, and they helped get me antibiotics without any problems.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Language

If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition?
