IES Abroad: Barcelona - Study Abroad with IES Abroad

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
It was worthwhile and definitely once in a lifetime. I grew in different ways than I thought I would. I didn't learn as much Spanish as I was hoping but I grew as a person and have a better world outlook.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

IES was in a GREAT location--right in the center of town. The program size was a good size.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

The location was great. It was nice not having to do my own laundry or bring my own sheets/towels. My senora was nice but very chatty and overfed us.

* Food:

The food was a lot different than what I normally eat. Our senora also made us huge portions and would insist we eat more.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

I enjoyed the IES field trip to Costa Brava because we got to see an area I would have not seen on my own. It was a little too long and too many museums.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

The pick pocketing was bad in Barcelona but other than that it is pretty safe. People drink a lot more over there.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? Yes
Language acquisition improvement?

Most people spoke some English. I spoke spanish with my senora.

If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition?
