IES Abroad: Berlin - Study Abroad With IES Abroad

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
It was inspiring and an incredible push toward independence, especially coming from a small liberal arts university where guidance is always provided/available.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 0-2 weeks

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The instructors were relatively informal but very knowledgeable. Offered valuable feedback and the educational experience was not all that different.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

The faculty was incredibly helpful and pleasant.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Neighborhood was very safe. Host family was kind but gave a huge degree of freedom (client).

* Food:

There were options everywhere to eat familiar or unfamiliar foods. There were few inexpensive items and groceries were not an easy/inexpensive option.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

The program took us to Krakow, but the street festivals held regularly in Berlin were the most worthwhile.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

Didn't personally have any incidents.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? up to 150-200 euros or more per week on food
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Try to do 1 or two large meals per day or figure out a way to get ahold of inexpensive snacks.

Language

How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? None
