What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
The Writer's Program was 100% worthwhile! I learned so much about Ireland culturally and historically, but also learned about myself as a writer. This experience informed me on the life I want to live and the career choices I want to make for myself. I found this experience to be perfect as a junior, especially in your second semester before you are a senior. It opened my eyes so much to the possibilities that are out there and the knowledge the world can give you.

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

This was the best decision I have made within my collegiate experience, I made lifelong friends and grew in my academic and personal areas of my life. The people in this program have shown me such kindness and the professors have had an impact on the career I will go into.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? It was very easy to budget and I recommend having group dinners with the friends in your program, it helped me save so much! Stores to shop for affordable groceries: Aldi, affordable room stuff: Penny's or Guineys!

A Look Back

* What did you like most about the program?
  • Living in the center of Dublin, close to everything.
  • The knowledge and experience that all of the professors had to give to me and my peers.
  • The program trips were so special for me academically but also culturally.
* What could be improved?
  • A few of the assignments where not as challenging, I would've loved for a few of the classes to have pushed me more.
  • In the apartment, there were minimal kitchen items so my roommates and I had to buy somethings that weren't included.
  • Having all students apply for a LEAP card before arriving so when they get to Aparto they already have it.
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? I wish I knew about the Irish citizenship card prior to coming and just making my appointment for the beginning of my time so I wasn't paying 300 euros at the end of my trip.

Reasons For Studying Abroad

The Avid Adventurer
The wardrobe you packed was better suited for a semester of camping than club hopping. Outdoorsy, you might forgo a crazy night out for an early all-day adventure. You'd rather take in the rich culture of an old town than the metropolis of a modern city, but for you getting off the grid is ideal.
