IES Abroad: London - Study London
Going in, London was one of my favorite cities in the world, and it contiunes to be so. I mostly treasure the opportunity I had to travel all over the country and meet new friends.

The classes were a great combination of lecture and discussion, and they incorporated the culture to provide a "first hand" experience of the subjects. |

While the staff itself was local, they were very knowledageable about working with American students, and were very helpful and easily accesible. |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
I lived at the IES London Residence Hall in Chelsea. It was a short tube ride from the academic center and in a very safe neighborhood. I lived with one other roommate and shared a kitchen with 5 other people. While we were expected to cook for ourselves, all kitchenware was provided and there were a number of grocery stores nearby. <br /><br /> |
* Food: |
We were responsible for our own food. We lived in an affluent area so we did not eat out often where we lived, but we cooked regularly as a group, and it was very easy to find good, cheap food around the academic center. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
I made friends quickly, and our program made an effort to arrange field trips not only around London, but around other landmarks and towns in England. I also took independent trips to other English cities, Scotland, and Ireland. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |

* Safety: |
Living in a major city, I of course had to be prudent, but I never felt unsafe in any part of London at any time. Our program was very concerned about safety issues and briefed us regularly about any disturbances in the city, or in other parts of the country we might be visiting. We were informed about what to do in case of a medical emergency, and we all had numerous emergency insurance plans. |

A Look Back
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? | Travel with an open mind, meet as many new people as possible, travel every chance you get, but still save time to really experience London. |

Comments: | The class consisted of discussion of various issues in film censorship in Britain today and throughout history, film screenings, and presentations. We also had the opportunity to listen to guest speakers and take a field trip to the British Film Museum. The structure of the class was not lecture based, but discussion based. |
