IES Abroad: London - Theater Studies

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I took away a bit of the British approach to theatre. I gained the European perspective regarding my career of choice, social norms, fashion, etc. I made several great connections in fields I wish to pursue, acting. I got a better understanding of myself. I came out with a better grasp of the world and how we connect.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 0-2 weeks

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

It was intense, especially regarding the writing, but we had professors that were understanding and extremely helpful.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I definitely expected something much bigger than my living arrangement and was a bit disappointed by the pre-determined living situation, but it quickly became home. It is definitely a cool, fun spot. Also, I’d like to give a personal thank you to the administration for letting me a non-binary (pangender) person like me live with my best friend.

* Food:

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

I was fully immersed in the culture, especially the queer scene.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

The US should remodel it’s healthcare after the UK. The UK’s healthcare and ideas surrounding healthcare are phenomenal.

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Everything about it whether good or bad, made the entire experience all the more special because it helped me learn so much. I would do it all over and change nothing!

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

It’s a bit hard because you want to spend freely, but if you budget well you can surely do it.

Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Budget! Budget! Budget!

* Did your program have a foreign language component? No

Reasons For Studying Abroad

To help future students find programs attended by like-minded individuals, please choose the profile that most closely represents you.
The Nearly Native or Trail Blazer
Craving the most authentic experience possible, perhaps you lived with a host family or really got in good with the locals. You may have felt confined by your program requirements and group excursions. Instead, you'd have preferred to plan your own trips, even skipping class to conduct your own 'field work.'
