Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

My French grammar class was taught in a way that I had never experienced before that catered to the students and our levels of language proficiency. The grading system was a bit harsh though.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

We would be chided for speaking in English. I felt like the administration was efficient and helpful.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I feel like I did more absorbing the language instead of speaking it with my host family.

* Food:

I just felt like I always had too much food piled onto my plate and I knew I couldn't be rude and not eat all of it.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

There were always things to do and organized events. Conversation club was fun.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

Once I was comfortable with the layout of the city and the public transportation I felt safe. I needed to learn some street smarts that I'd never needed to learn before.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? $100
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Bring warm clothes and waterproof boots so that you don't have to buy them there.

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? Yes
How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? None
What was the highest level language course you had completed prior to departure? Stylistics
Language acquisition improvement?

I could practice with my professors, my host family, and my friends. I did need to use French in everyday interactions because people rarely spoke English.

If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition?
