Yes it was amazing being introduced to a whole new culture. Ecuador also really opened my eyes to the world since I usually have been sheltered.
Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
The professors did a good time taking the class pace slowly since all of the classes were in Spanish |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
The IES center was great and provided us with what we needed. |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
They were fantastic and made me feel welcomed. My host mom also is the most amazing cook ever. Really enjoyed all her fantastic meals. |
* Food: |
There were a lot of slabs of meat and rice which got old sometimes when we traveled. Some of my friends also got parasites and bad stomach problems. But, I really enjoyed all the exotic fruit. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
Our two trips were extremely fun in the Galapagos and Amazon. My friends and I also planned a lot of weekend beach trips |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
|
* Safety: |
Some of my friends who had stomach problems had a hard time with the healthcare because the doctors would give them medicine that didn't work or wrong diagnosis. I had an interesting situation where I was in the ER because I had received a concussion but my ER doctor said nothing was wrong with me, which was false. Safety wasn't too bad; you just had to be smart. I had one incident where men tried to steal my money and purse. Also on my last night in Ecuador my cab driver wouldn't take me home and tried to force me to drink and sit on his lap. I ended up jogging home and leaving. It is a 3rd world country so I was prepared for events like that to happen. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
