Childhood Dreams Past Review
By Reed Hanson (Hope College) - abroad from 01/28/2019 to 05/08/2019 with
IES Abroad: Rome - History & Classics
I learned that it is okay to travel solo sometimes! I came in wanting to find friends I could travel with, but when that didn't happen I was comfortable enough to explore on my own and gain some wonderful memories and experiences! It was absolutely worthwhile!

|
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |

It was a dream come true! Seeing all the Roman ruins in person instead of a textbook was something I'll be eternally grateful for |
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
I struggled at first, but as the semester progressed I stopped starving myself for the purpose of saving money |
Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? | $300/week, including travel |
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | Don't carry cash! I constantly wanted to have cash with me throughout the semester, and it burned a hole in my pocket. My advise: only take $300 out every month, instead of every two weeks. And never carry it with you! |
