IES Abroad: Santiago - Summer Internship

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I really learned what kind of work environment I want to be in after I graduate and how much I value social interaction at work. I also learned how to navigate living in a household with little to no English, which improved my Spanish immensely. I also learned how to travel on a budget which was very important. Overall I thought the trip was worthwhile.

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

This program overall was affordable, and I think they did a good job planning cultural activities for us such as field trips and classes. Sometimes the seminar class could get a little dry, but I think improvements to that will come with time. The optional Spanish class was very useful, though, and I would definitely recommend taking it.

A Look Back

* What did you like most about the program?
  • The amount of things there are to do and see in Santiago and around Chile
  • The Spanish class
  • The field trips that we took through IES
* What could be improved?
  • Efficiency for Internship placements
  • More interesting internship seminar
  • More free time/long weekends to travel
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? I really should have taken out less cash and just depended on my credit card. I took out too much cash which left me on a very small budget which made things like plane trips a little bit difficult. A lot of cash was also spent to load my bus/metro card because most of those stations wouldn't take card.
