IES Abroad: Sydney Direct Enrollment - University Of Sydney

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
It was absolutely worthwhile. I'm glad I had the time and opportunity to explore Australia and I know I'll be back.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 1 month - 6 months

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

The housing was terrible. Our apartment had stains, cracks and leaks. It was infested with cockroaches. When I expressed my concerns to IES, they didn't do much to help. I went as far as contacting the headquarters and they were unhelpful. It was really disappointing because housing is a large part of why going through a program is helpful rather than enrolling directly.

* Food:

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? No

I regret going through IES. They placed me in terrible housing and did not provide much support or guidance throughout the experience. It was not good value for the money at all. Even while I was in Sydney, I wished I could have switched programs.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? If you want to work, apply early to get your Australian SSN because it takes a while to process
