By Marilyn V (Global Studies, Providence College) for
IFE: Paris Field Study
It is amazing how much someone can learn outside of the classroom when studying abroad, the internship showed me the way of international business and just getting to know the international students in my foyer expanded my knowledge of geography, politics, and point of views immensely.

Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
This program has more work than most others, because it is not at a univeristy the learning environment is smaller and personal. The teachers and especially the directors of the program are very understanding and helpful during the duration of the program. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
The strengths of this program are the learning experiences because one learns to be independent and held personally responsible for their own documentations and work, also there are plenty of opportunities to receive help from the directors of the program who are very hands on with the students. Finally, the internship is an undeniably incredible asset one has after this program ends. |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
I lived in a Foyer and I strongly suggest it to every student thinking about studying abroad. The Foyer I stayed at had a mixture of international and French students living together and there is a wide diversity with a young and lively atmosphere that accommodates all the students. |
* Food: |
|
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
For me, Paris is a city with so much to do outside of work and class. There is so much culture in Paris it is impossible to avoid it and France provides students with great discounts to explore museums and events. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
|
* Safety: |
I did not have any health problems during the program so I have no advice on the subject. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
|
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | Laundry! It's expensive and normally does not come with rent. Paris is one of the most expensive cities in the world but it is very possible as a student to live on a budget |
Language
If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition? |
