IFSA: Buenos Aires - Argentine Universities Program

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Yes it was very worthwhile, and I learned a lot about political structure and the effects that a dictatorship vs. a democracy can have on a country. I also learned a lot about the people of Argentina and can speak much better Spanish, and I can get around almost anywhere by myself, especially if English or Spanish are spoken.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The internship and some other classes were often somewhat unfulfilling, but IFSA classes that were geared towards American students were much more organized and I learned more in them.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

The overseas staff were incredibly helpful and available.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

My apartment was in the center of the city and my family was very helpful and friendly.

* Food:

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

It was difficult to meet Argentine friends that I would see often, but I met many people from lots of countries including my own.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? $20 not including trips or bus tickets
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Argentina is very cheap compared to Europe, so there wasn't really anything that I didn't anticipate.

How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? Intermediate
Language acquisition improvement?

I believe my Spanish skills improved, but I am still certainly not fluent.
