Study Abroad in Glasgow, Scotland: Changed my life and made friends for life! Past Review
By Jen L (Sociology., Shenandoah University) for
IFSA: Glasgow - University of Glasgow
I had a wonderful time, and made the best friends who I am planning to go spend a couple weeks now 2 years later. I loved Scotland, the people were so friendly. In Europe it was so easy to travel cheaply. I also took very interesting classes, film and literature that focused on scottish and british culture. I wish I could have stayed there.

Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
The workload was different, there were no textbooks, just lectures. The finals were all essays for every class. I would suggest going during the Fall semester because courses are all part 1 & 2, so I felt like I was missing some information from the first semester course. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
|
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
At first, I was not happy with my living situation because I did not live near the other American students I went with. But I ended up with a fantastic roommate and all of my closest friends shared the kitchen with us. |
* Food: |
I cooked for myself in the kitchen. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
IFSA took us on multiple trips across Scotland, and they were wonderful programs. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
|
* Safety: |
|
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |

A Look Back
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? | This is a great program, they really know what they are doing and they offer multiple trips per semester. I loved Scotland so much I ended up staying the summer there. And now, 2 years later I am planning to go visit my friends this summer as well. It truly changed my life. |
