Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

I loved the intensive Spanish course that we took for the first three weeks of school in Buenos Aires. My spanish really improved imensley during that time and I learned a lot about the Argentine culture and history. I liked all the classes I took during my time, the teachers were great, they weren't too hard on us but they made us learn. They had a passion for teaching and for teaching us about their countries which was great, I really did learn a lot. The academic set up was very different from my home University and I was happily surprised by the amount of time I had to explore and attend cultural events in the cities I lived in.

On-site administration of your program

Wonderful. Both countries did such a good job of getting us involved and giving us information on trips and things like that. I loved how in Argentina the ISA office was really an after school hang out. It had a great atmosphere and was a fun place to meet up with friends. I never had a problem with any of the staff in either country, they were all very caring and attentive. They know what they are doing!

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I can not say enough how much I loved my host stays. They were very different in Argentina and in Peru but great in both places. It is the best way to really get to know people, and to have a family and to learn about the culture from a local perspective. It helped my spanish so much too because they didn't speak much english but were very helpful in teaching me spanish. The food was awesome too! I made life long friends, I can't wait to go back and visit them. I think that the home stays were my favorite part of the trip.

I love eating new food so this was a great trip for me since I got to experience the food from two countries. I never went hungry, portions were always hearty and filling. If you are picky when it comes to food it may be harder because it is really impolite and hurtful to the hosts to decline food so its best to try everything!

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

AMAZING I met life long friends. Our group bonded in an incredible way which made all of our experiences special. We were also able to do some awesome travel like going to Iguazu falls, and Machu Pichu and many other places. It was so easy to get around and to travel I loved it!

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

Like any large city you have to be careful. Don't go out alone at night, things like that. I did have to go to a doctor once because my knee was hurting me and one of the ISA workers accompanied me and went through everything with me so it worked out great, I got medicine and improved my situatoin.

I practice Spanish with my host families, and my friends from the ISA group and friends that we met in the countries. Also we spoke spanish in all but one of my classes. I improved a lot during my time abroad, it really takes the imersion to actually learn a language and that was the time that I learned spanish. The workers at ISA were GREAT at encouraging us to speak and practice our spanish and were very patient and helpful in allowing us to work through our struggles with the language.
