I learned a lot about myself introspectively, I learned a lot about Greek culture and history, and generally, not a day went by while I was there that I didn't learn something new. It was so unique and so beautiful. - Westminster University View Entire Review

I gained a better understanding on another part of the world. I honestly felt like a native after just a month there. The Greek culture is so welcoming and inviting. I made so many friends who I still keep in contact with it. At first I was apprehensive about going away for school, as I was the only person in my program, but I a... - College of Mount Saint Vincent View Entire Review
You should take nothing for granted. This entire trip and learning experience was certainly worthwhile. - College of Mount Saint Vincent View Entire Review
I gained and grew so much on this trip to Greece. Besides the amazing relationships I built while there, this was the trip that segued into my international humanitarian career, which is what I'm doing now in Iraq. It was the experience of a lifetime, and I'll cherish it forever. - Roosevelt University View Entire Review

I've learned a lot about myself, but mainly I've learned that you can never take anything for granted because (A) other people are either doing okay with less than you and (B) life moves faster than you can blink - College of Mount Saint Vincent View Entire Review

"A truly amazing time! I learned a lot about myself, I learned a lot about Greek culture and history, and generally, not a day went by while I was there that I didn't learn something new. It was so unique and so beautiful. The home stay was extremely kind and welcoming, the program correspondents were very kind and communicative, the class was full of information and challenge." If you're eager to explore a place where ancient history meets modern vibrancy, the IPSL Thessaloniki, Greece program is for you! History enthusiasts will be captivated by Thessaloniki’s rich and layered past—as a symbol of the Byzantine Empire, a free city under Roman rule, a key site during Ottoman control, and the birthplace of the Young Turk Revolution. Experience Greek culture through both historical and contemporary lenses while engaging with topics such as sustainable micro-entrepreneurship, social responsibility, immigration, and Europe’s ongoing refugee crisis.

Immerse yourself in the richness of Greek culture in a land filled with breathtaking natural beauty and deep historical roots. Live, study, and volunteer in the vibrant heart of a modern city shaped by its ancient past. If you choose to enroll in academic courses, you can explore Community Organizing and Social Activism (COSA)—a dynamic class that delves into the history and ethics of international service while examining Greece’s past and present political and social movements. Additional course offerings include Greek History & Culture, Modern Greek Language, and a range of engaging electives. In July, don’t miss the popular Mediterranean Diet & Lifestyle program. Space is limited, so early registration is highly recommended.

All courses are enriched through meaningful, hands-on community service with Greek NGOs and other non-profit organizations. To deepen your understanding of how Greece—and Europe more broadly—responds to the challenges of displacement, you’ll have the opportunity to volunteer with organizations supporting refugees, migrants, and Roma communities fleeing violence, persecution, and instability. These groups provide critical services, including food and housing assistance, job training, integration support, and psycho-social care. Beyond this essential work, you can take part in projects aiding the homeless and at-risk youth, join environmental efforts focused on ocean sustainability, tutor English, or volunteer with initiatives such as the Educational Organization for Street Children and Street Workers. You may also collaborate with innovative groups that use art and technology to drive community development. These diverse experiences allow you to make a lasting impact while gaining invaluable skills, knowledge, and cultural insight.

Of course, your time in Greece wouldn’t be complete without some unforgettable exploration beyond the classroom. IPSL offers a variety of activities and excursions designed to enrich your experience and immerse you in the local culture. Start with a guided walking tour of Thessaloniki, where you'll visit significant historical sites, explore fascinating museums, and sample some of the world’s most delicious cuisine. Other exciting options may include hiking the legendary Mt. Olympus, sailing on the sparkling Aegean Sea, taking part in Greek cooking classes, enjoying a multi-day trip to Athens, learning traditional Greek dances, or joining an artisan tour through the picturesque villages of the Tzoumerka Horia region. Whether you're adventuring outdoors or diving into cultural traditions, these experiences will help you connect more deeply with Greece’s rich heritage and natural beauty.

Financial aid is available for eligible students, and IPSL proudly accepts AmeriCorps Segal Education Awards.
