Ireland Study Abroad Reflections: Comprehensive Reviews of Past Programs

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I think that the most important lesson that I learned is that it requires a great deal of patience and self control to contend with so many different personalities.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 2 weeks - 1 month

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

There were a lot of reading and lecturers. We wrote in journals. and we study architecture and culture.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

I thought that the on-site administration did an excellent job. I would have like to have had a little more interaction with the faculty and students at Mary Immaculate College. I wish we could have sat in on a few classes.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I was pretty satisfied with the living arrangements. We had private rooms and that was a pleasant surprise.

* Food:

I think that there should been a few more meals provided for us. This was a very expensive trip and constantly having to buy food made it even more expensive.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

I felt very integrated with the local community. I think that we could have a bit more of the interaction with the local community, but overall I was happy with it,,

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

I don't think that there were any health issues so there is no real way to evaluate it.

* Safety:

I felt that the city was very safe. We had a lot of young women who ventured out on their own, and I didn't hear about anyone feeling unsafe.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

I would. I though that the program was just long enough. We had a chance to visit Belfast and Moor Cliffs. I was very happy with the program

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

I didn't have a problem, but I own a business, and my husband is an engineer. I do know that some of the students were running out of money fast.

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? I'm sure that I spent over 100.00 each week on food.
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Bring more money then you think that you will need and pre-purchase at least two of your meals each day.
