ISA Study Abroad: Career-Building Internships in Australia

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
It was definitely worthwhile. I learned so many things about myself and the country. I gained a broadened view of life in another country and how some of my decisions we directly correlate back to my experience abroad. I will definitely travel to Australia again!

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

My supervisor always gave interns reminders of when assignments were due and always open to assist us if we needed. She worked well with all of us and was very friendly.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I lived in a hostel, but it was a very clean hostel with great owners. If I had any problems, the owners were always quick to make the necessary corrections.

* Food:

The food is a lot like American food but they have a few other dishes that you wouldn't find in the states. There were also a lot of asian restaurants in the downtown Sydney area. Loved the food!

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

I experienced so many different cultures because Sydney was bombarded with international studnts studying English. I met people from every continent and built friendships with those people.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

We had an orientation that went over safety and asjustments to a new country so I felt pretty informed on how to keep safe.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? No

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Language

Language acquisition improvement?

People is Australia speak English, which is the language I speak so I did not have to improve on my English.

A Look Back

* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? I would go for this program. Although it is quite pricey, it is worth every penny. Just plan to spend more than you think you will. But it's also good to set up a budget. The people through this program were well knowledged about the programs and accommodated my needs. Also, they were quick to respond if I had any questions. They helped me prepare for my abroad experience.
