ISA Study Abroad in Dublin, Ireland

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
My study aboard experience was 110% worthwhile. I was able to learn about a culture very similar but very much different than my own. I was able to travel Europe and try things I never otherwise would have had the opportunity to do. I learned to appreciate other people views and ideas. If I could do it all over again I would, in fact I would do two semesters abroad, probably in different areas just to expose myself to more culture.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 0-2 weeks

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

Wide variety of courses to choose from most of which would transfer back as general education credits to my home university. Being a business major it would have been awesome to take a business course but was restricted from doing so.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Coleman and Kelly were awesome!

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

The on-campus housing was average. One quick thing you learn coming to Europe is that everything is smaller than it is in the states. The accommodation could use some updating.

* Food:

Dublin has a large variety of places and cuisines to try. Would highly recommend a traditional fish and chips!

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

Taking advantage of traveling while abroad is the best thing I did. I was able to travel to Paris, London, Rome, Florence, Belfast, as well as all over Ireland while I studied abroad. If I could do it all over again I would travel more! One piece of advice is to take advantage of ryanair.com and hostelworld.com, you can almost always find a deal! Also take part in the Interstudy organized events. While in Ireland Interstudy planned a weekend trip to the Dingle Peninsula, probably one of my favorite trips I took in Ireland.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)
