ISA Study Abroad in Florence, Italy

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Worth every penny!!! My experience taught me so much about myself and about another culture. I loved Florence and can't wait to go back. Made me want to look deeper into working abroad once I have my degree.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

Language course was more difficult than anticipated even though it was beginning Italian and we were not aware that there was an afternoon session. The school did not communicate well with our program the change in schedule.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Our ISA staff in Florence was incredible! They answered any questions we had through out the summer. They were very knowledgeable about everything in the city. They helped us figure out how to ride the train and bus. They seemed to know about all of our home states. They always organized great excursions as well as other gatherings in Florence. They always kept us updated with things that were going on around the city so we could participate. They were always available to us and so nice. The absolute best directors!!!

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

The location of my apartment was perfect, right in the center of the city close to school and everything. Our apartment was fully furnished with sheets, pans, and utensils. We always felt safe in our apartment.

* Food:

School restaurant was great, I would advise all future students to get meal vouchers to GANZO.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

ISA did a great job of planning excursions. I especially liked Verona and going to the opera in the coloseum. Cooking class was fun. Weekly field trips to the markets, views of the city, and gardens were always fun. They gave us a change to get to know our advisors outside of the office.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

We always felt safe, even walking around at night. I walked home plenty of times alone but the streets are always busy so it was never an issue. Just be aware of your surroundings at all times. We always felt safe on the trains and buses as well.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? It is cheaper to buy a Eurorail pass before you leave because of the mailing issue.
