Amazing! Past Review

By (CommunicationsL Media and Journalism, University of Hartford) - abroad from 08/30/2012 to 12/14/2012 with

ISA Study Abroad in Gold Coast, Australia

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
It was worth it to get away from the home university for a while to see something new. I know I didn't make a ton of friends while I was here, but I learned new things, and I met new people, and I saw things I never saw before such as the Great barrier reef, and it was amazing.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 1 month - 6 months

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The attitude here was totally different and just so much more relaxing. So were the teachers, called them by first name, and though sometimes everything got a little stressful, it was an amzing trip

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Pretty decent. Came in once a week to change the bed stuff and vacuum the floor, so that was pretty nice. 11am on a Monday morning was the rough part.

* Food:

The school food was, ehhh, like most it just gets tireding after a while. The few places around the corner are pretty good, but the only thing I was missing was a kitchen which some of the other housing provided.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Don't waste it all on alcohol, like I saw so many of the other students do in the first 3 days we were here in our bridging cultures exchange. Go drink, but don't blow $300 a night.

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? No
How much did the program encourage you to use the language?

0 = No encouragement, 5 = frequent encouragement to use the language

Mostly the slang terms, different actives brought new words they gave to us. Besides that they spoke english.

Reasons For Studying Abroad

To help future students find programs attended by like-minded individuals, please choose the profile that most closely represents you.
The Academic or Linguist
You went abroad with specific academic goals in mind; the program credentials and rigor of your coursework abroad were very important to you. You had a great time abroad, but never lost sight of your studies and (if applicable) were diligent with your foreign language study. Good for you!
