ISA Study Abroad in London, England

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
The experiance was definitely worthwhile. I would do it again in a heartbeat, minus the getting sick. It was wonderful to be on my own. I learned that I could be on my own and not have to worry about myself. Meeting the different kinds of people threw me for a loop but it was nice to listen to them and share stories.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 1 month - 6 months
The term and year this program took place: Fall 2009

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The classes were nothing like the were described. They turned out to be a lot less fun. Especially the classes strictly for study abroad students.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

The program was great with keeping in touch. They checked up on me while I was there and they helped me with any problem that I had.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

The housing was great. Having my own room was a GIANT plus.

* Food:

It was normal food. Sandwiches. The Cafe was okay.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

There was a welcome committee there to meet us and they were wonderful. They introduced us to some people and we made friends.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

I got deathly ill while I was away with Swine Flu. The organization made sure I had everything I needed and they sent people to check on me.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? I don't know
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Keep track of your money.

Language

Language acquisition improvement?

I only speak English. So it wasn't hard to communicate.

Instructor: Monica Germana
Instruction Language: English
Comments: This course was talked about to be the best course to take in London and I was really disappointed with it. It wasn't fun and it was barley about London. Our advisors said the class would be taking trips and writing about what we see. It was nothing like that.
Credit Transfer Issues: This class didn't transfer and although everyone said this class was going to be great, I wouldn't recommend it to other students.
