What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I gained a lot of knowledge about a culture that I did not know too much about. I also again a lot of knowledge on how to use public transportation systems along with learning navigational skills. Lastly, I learned so much about myself. I used to be a very shy, closed off person. I also used to suffer from really bad anxiety. This study abroad experience helped change that and helped me get rid of my anxiety and all of my other issues. I learned things about myself that I never knew that I had and I learned things about myself that I always had I just never knew that they were there and how to utilize them correctly or bring them out. Studying abroad was the most worthwhile thing that I could have ever done in my entire life. It was really, truly the best freaking experience of my entire life and it is the best decision hands down that I have ever made in my lifetime so far.

Also, create a budget outlining your entire amounts of money savings that you are going to be using (if you have this information available to you) and write down all of your expenses, including food and bills and factor in and out how much money you'll be spending on a certain bill or how much money that you can afford to spend on a certain item; such as food.

A Look Back

* What did you like most about the program?
  • Everything, but if I had to only pick one thing, it would be all fo the self-discovery about myself and all of the confidence that I gained while I was abroad.
* What could be improved?
  • Nothing. It was truly flawless. My only complaint is not being allowed to study aboad anymore once I get out of college.
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? Not feel so guilty about going abroad and going my own thing. This is the time in my life were I find who I am as a person and I should not feel guilty for doing so or for doing something like this and for doing something that I want to do in my life.

Reasons For Studying Abroad

To help future students find programs attended by like-minded individuals, please choose the profile that most closely represents you.
The Nearly Native or Trail Blazer
Craving the most authentic experience possible, perhaps you lived with a host family or really got in good with the locals. You may have felt confined by your program requirements and group excursions. Instead, you'd have preferred to plan your own trips, even skipping class to conduct your own 'field work.'
