Well Worth It Past Review
By Modupe A (mechanical engineering, Gordon College) for
ISA Study Abroad in London, England
I learned a lot about other cultures, and it was definitely interesting to see things outside of the American point of view. I felt enriched on this trip.

Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
The courseload was a lot less than what I was used to. I found extra time in my days that I never had before. None of the classes had assigned textbooks, but they did provide large packets for notes. Registration was a bit confusing, and I was surprised at the lack of respect many students had for the professors. I felt that I had to teach myself a lot of the material to truly understand, but there teachers were there whenever I needed something explained. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
While the program tried to be helpful to the students from abroad, it many times fell short. I was given information on what I needed to do, or who to talk to for help, but when I found myself in those particular situations, noone ever seemed to be around. Things were often left unexplained. |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
The housing was wonderful. I lived in suite housing, so I had my own room. I became very close with my roommates. We were like a small family. I also had my own bathroom. We all shared a kitchen. Buying the things I needed to eat and clean with and buying food was a bit expensive. |
* Food: |
I cooked almost all the time. There were not many other options. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
Best part of my trip. I did a lot of traveling, a lot of sightseeing, and got to experience nightlife in another country. It was truly wonderful. The excursions planned by Interstudy were a lot of fun. I got to see a musical, we had dinner at fabulous restaurants, and we took tours of London. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
|
* Safety: |
The area was very sketchy, but safe for the most part. The night buses were a life-saver. When i feel sick, it was a bit hard getting in contact with someone to help because it was off hours. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |

A Look Back
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? | There is perhaps no experience as wonderful as studying abroad that is so readily available to you as a student. Take advantage of it if you can. Take advantage of the country you're in and those around you. Experience all there is to offer. You won't regret it. |
