Falling in love with MALAGA Past Review
By Katie H (HISTORY., University of Nebraska- Lincoln) for
ISA Study Abroad in Málaga, Spain
I learned so much and still think back on my experiences all the time. I would love to go back and live in Spain because the people, culture, history and experience were unbelievable.

Definitely met my expectations, I had an amazing time and would recommend it to everyone! |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
I absolutely loved where I lived. It was across the street from Malaguata beach. I loved going to lay out, reading on the benches and running along the sidewalk. I had an amazing room with a great balcony and plenty of room. My senora had everything I needed aside from the toiletries. Emilia, my senora, was so loving and caring. She did not speak any English but was very willing to help me with my homework and we would practice all the time. We both cried so much the last week and I still think about her often. She did have her granddaughter and grandson living with her, but I barely saw them and the apartment was huge so it didn't bother me at all. The area was amazing and even though I walked forty five minutes to class, it was an awesome way to start each day. I would walk by the gorgeous park, through the business district and was able to see so much of what the city had to offer. |
* Food: |
Emilia fed me so much, we would actually argue because there were times I couldn't keep eating because I was so full. Some of the food was an adjustment and I told her the things I didn't like so she didn't keep buying them. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
We went to the Canary Islands over spring break and had a blast. The Malaga Film Festival was awesome to see and the fans were crazy! Semana Santa was intense and I'm so glad I was there to see such an important event. |

A Look Back
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? | The city is amazing and the experience is one I will never forget. Go as long as possible. I personally loved that my friends and I hung out with Spainards because I really felt like I was living the Spanish culture to it's fullest. I wandered around all the time and just took in the city. I had planned on traveling Europe while I was abroad but once I got to Malaga, I didn't want to leave. I loved where I lived, I loved the city and there was always so much to do. I went to a nearby beach city each weekend so definitely make an effort to get out of the city, it's breathtaking everywhere!! Go with an open mind and make the most of it! |
