ISA Study Abroad in Paris, France

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Helped me see culture from an inside view, instead of outside. I hope to work for the U.N. one day, and I am not studying Spanish.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 0-2 weeks

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

Wonderful Academics, teachers, and fellow classmates.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I'm giving this a 4/5 because my first host family was awful. I will honestely say that, they did not give my roomate and I a key, nor did they feed us the appropriate type of meals. Our living quarters were quite small even our beds touched, and the family was insane. It wasn't until after we moved across Paris, to find our wonderful Host mom, who showed us a much better French lifestyle and she helped with my French everyday. She helped change my expierence of France overall.

* Food:

Get used to eating a lot of Ham in Paris! :)

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

I made A LOT of friends while I was abroad, native French, other americans, morrocans, africans, etc. WE still keep in touch. Really great people.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

I got a horrible virus while I was living there. The health care system is much different than here, expect that. But they solved the problem quickly.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? Yes
Language acquisition improvement?

I practiced French with my fellowe foreign classmates, my host mother, and all of my teachers affiliated with the university. They all set up small conversation hours for you each week to meet with a group and talk.

If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition?
