Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

I took a history class starting with the colonization of the country and going to about the 1900's. I learned a lot and had a great teacher. The same went with Afrikaans. The other classes I did not feel that I learned anything and remember none of it.

On-site administration of your program

Other than Ouma, who was a big help, even from Cape Town, no one cared to help us, nor could help us. They had us running in circles to avoided answering our simple questions. They did not help us with classes nor did the have a particularly nice tone to them.

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I loved Annie's Cove. It was very communal and the setup made it easy to get to know people. With only international students there and nearby, it gave us more of a global experience. There were South Africans living there as well.

I went out for dinner and bought things to make in my little kitchen. It was nice to have "family dinners" too, like pot-luck to experience different foods.

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

There were many attractions and our program arranged a nice excursion for us. I wish the program had done more. Most of our social outreaching was done on our own.

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

Thankfully I didn't have any major health issues abroad, but the program just told us that we were covered under insurance if anything should happen.
