Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

I learned a lot from my internship and got academic credit for it. Plus I had lots of fun :)

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Easy to talk to if there were any problems

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Great host family with another student from Holland living with me

* Food:

Food was very similar to American food. My host family would cook often for me

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

I made a lot of friends through my workplace's families. We would all hang out, cook a Chilean dish, etc

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

I never had any issues, but I know that I was covered in case something did go wrong. Santiago is pretty safe and the water is okay to drink.

* Safety:

While I was in Santiago there were some riots, which we were advised to stay away from. Other than that, I always felt safe.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

My host family bought food for me, so the only costs I had were going out with friends and traveling

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? $50, unless I was vacationing, then it was higher
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Don't eat out a lot, go to the grocery store

0 = No encouragement, 5 = frequent encouragement to use the language

They encouraged us but we would always speak English with eachother of course. It was difficult to learn Spanish but I did know quite a bit when I left!
