ISA Study Abroad in Sevilla, Spain

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
It was completely worthwhile. What you will learn abroad can never be taught in books or in a classroom. It is the most amazing event a person can experience in their lifetime.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

I felt the workload was perfect. My actual classes were at the Universidad de Sevilla. They were challanging enough to keep me working but not so much that I didn't get to enjoy my experience.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

I did not experience any issues with the staff. Everything was very organized when we would go on excursions. The staff was very caring and helpful. I lived in an apartment with three other girls. There was an instance when we needed a light changed. One of my roommates mentioned it in passing to the staff and someone came over, with a new light, and changed it for us. They always made me feel safe and I always knew that they would be able to help with any hurdles in the study abroad experience.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

The apartment was small but it was nice. It was well taken care of. We did not need to buy anything for the apartment. It was in a very nice area of Sevilla. There was no t.v or internet access. Although we did not get internet access, it is relatively easy to have provided if necessary.

* Food:

Since I lived in an apartment I made my own food.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

The program did a really great job of combining informational events and social events. We flew in to Madrid so since Sevilla is in the southern part of Spain we made several stops at historically imporatant or well-known cities on our way to Sevilla. There were excursions about every weekend/every other weekend and were voluntary although paid for in program costs.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

Like any other city you just need to be smart. I had no experience with health issues but some people in the program did. The staff of ISA would help them locate a doctor and would accompany them to the facility. They were a tremendous support system.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Language

If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition?

A Look Back

* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? Get involved in the community but spend more time observing the local people. Everyone you will come in contact with is a teacher to you. Talk to people you wouldn't normally talk to. Absorb as much as you can. It will be a life changing experience and you will grow tremendously if you keep an open mind.
