Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

We were given a packet of many many classes that were available to international students. I was able to enroll in culture, literature, music, international human rights, and a handful of other courses relating to the Latvian nation.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

The program called Erasmus at the University of Latvia was one of the be organizations I've seen! They were so dedicated to making sure that all international students would have a variety of opportunities while studying abroad in Riga!

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

* Food:

You can find almost any food that you are looking for in the capital of Riga. You can look in grocery stores for your favorite foods or foods with dietary restrictions. But, if you are looking for some fun Latvian food or any other type of meal, you can usually find it in Old Town!

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

The events and trips that the internationals took in the program at the University of Latvia were one of the most memorable moments of my life!

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

We stayed in the dorms which are located right at the edge of what is known as Maskavas Forštate, which can be translated to Moscow Suburb. The area is much more depressed than other sections of the city and there for it can be dangerous if you are not careful. The night time is when you must be most alert. But, if you watch yourself, you should be alright.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? My great friend Maggie and I, you studied together, went straight to one of the popular banks in Riga: Swedbank. We set up an account and the stipend that the University gave us went into the account which we could use anywhere!

If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition?
