By Emily M (French Language and Literature., Western Washington University) for
ISEP Exchange: Montpellier - Exchange Program at Université Paul Valéry (Montpellier III)
I plan to study abroad independently again. I would never study abroad through Western Washington again.
Personal Information
How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? | 1 month - 6 months |
Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
Academics in France are generally more difficult than academics in America so keep this in mind while studying abroad. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
|
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
I lived with international students and french students. There was a good mix. |
* Food: |
I recieved a food stipened. This does not apply. There was, however, a cafeteria 1 minute from my dorm. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
|
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
|
* Safety: |
I went to the doctor several times, they were easy to find and cheap. My advisors helped me with everything I needed. As in any foreign country use your brain when walking around the city. Don't talk to strangers unless you want to get yourself in trouble. This is not a small town, it is a city so walk in groups and don't bring attention to yourself putting yourself in a dangerous situation. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
No
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
|
Language
If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition? |
