ISEP Exchange: Sunderland - Exchange Program at University of Sunderland

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
It was great, but for the price AIESEC is much more economical.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 2 weeks - 1 month

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

WHen I returned I was not able to get the amount of credit I was told I was recieivng before arrival and even during. It was a nightmare to return to, I had to take winder session to make up to graduate on time. Also a few years later a collections agency in the United Kingdom was still accepting payment from me. Even though I had already graduated I had to contact SJSU once again to sort it out.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

For a few weeks classes were unattainable, schedules were not yet worked out, orientation was non existent. Lacked organization and cohesiveness.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I lived with other AMericans, I don't believe this should be the case. I want to meet people from all around the world, not from my host country. I made an effort to meet other nationalities.

* Food:

We were given a stipend which was sufficient. But out housing was lacking in the form of cooking supplies and furnishings.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

I loved my time abroad; all the good and bad together. There were a lot of pieces to work out upon return but my time there was great. I took it upon myself to volunteer, to meet others, to travel, ect.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

There was an instance where a friend of mine was mugged at knifepoint while walking to campus. we took alternate routes but the university did little when it came to our safety. Ie: they had a shuttle system but it was extremely unreliable.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? No

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Language

If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition?

A Look Back

* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? It was really expensive for me. I would suggest going abroad with AIESEC more, which I did two times.
