Great Experience, but not Life Changing. Past Review

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

There was a definite language barrier with the professors, even though it was an "American" university. While the other students saw the school as more challenging, coming from P.C. it was a joke. I expected more of a challenge or at least gaining some cultural perspective inside the classroom.

On-site administration of your program

As a stated previously, the staff was not helpful after about the first week in providing assistance and transition into Vinovo. They did not help us plan trips or answer our questions. They never knew what was going on when I had questions. Overall they were not helpful to my needs and not the kind of staff that is needed for a study abroad program.

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I had eight roommates, which was to much. I was suppose to have had 3 roommates and actually living in Torino, not Vinovo.

I liked being able to cook for myself.

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

Well the village I was in was very safe, but I always felt unsafe in Torino. I never had any experience with the healthcare system or how my program addressed though issues.

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Most of the staff spoke average English, some better than others, but the locals spoke known, which I expected so learning the small amount I did helped me to a degree. If anything the Beginning Italian course I was enrolled in was the most challenging class, with the most prepared and academically qualified professor to teach a course.
