What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Yes, it was definitely worthwhile. I saw so many things that I never would have seen otherwise: art, sculpture, culture. I missed home and family and friends a lot, but it was definitely a great experience.

Personal Information

The term and year this program took place: Fall 2009

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The classes were challenging but also very educational. It was good to be able to get out and explore things like museums instead of sitting in class all day. It was strange to only have each class once a week.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Our on-site administration was very helpful and involved in our lives in the host country.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I lived with 4 other people in an apartment. I shared a room with another girl. We were very near the center of the city.

My apartment was in a very busy area, and it was slightly unclean. Our landlord was strange, and was not very attentive to our needs.

* Food:

I made most of my food. It was pretty good.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

There were plenty of clubs and bars and events to attend with friends in a social situation.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

There were not any doctors immediately available like there are at our home campus, but it was fine. I felt safe, even when I was walking home at night, but I tried to not go out late by myself.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? Probably $50, excepting rent.
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? It is important to budget and to not get sucked into buying things, especially in a country like England where the dollar is weak.

Language

How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? None
Language acquisition improvement?

My language did not really improve. I studied in England and I speak English.
