Studying in London to Understand Home Past Review

By (Journalism., Ithaca College) for

Ithaca College: London - Ithaca College London Center

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Yes, it was. I feel much more understanding of different ways the world can work. I've seen and met people with different concerns than myself, and I think that was good for me.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 0-2 weeks

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

I liked the way classes were run, and I liked my teachers. Sometimes things would drag on, and I actually would have liked a little more work, but overall it was good.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

I really enjoyed the program and the staff were all friendly. I was disappointed when trips fell through, and I would have liked a weekly e-mail of things happening to get involved in, but besides that, it was good.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

* Food:

My only complaints were with those cooking, not the food itself. Although, I did have a hard time finding a good tomato.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

I loved climbing the Tor and going to sports matches. A QPR game and rugby match the first week were great.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

I had no issues.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? The one thing to remember is the fee for getting a flat. So even though I had the money, it could have been an issue having to pay rent 3 times in the first week. It was a little surprising to me.

Individual Course Reviews

British Pop Music

Instructor: Keith Moline
Instruction Language: English
Comments: I really enjoyed the course, but the lack of respect from most of the students ruined it. They would make fun of him during class and never seemed to listen to his opinions or contribute their own.
