"London: Expensive, Yet Rewarding" Past Review

Ithaca College: London - Ithaca College London Center

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I gained a knowledge of sports culture from across the pond. I learned that the grading system leaves a lot more up to the students as far as creativity, but to get an A you have to go above and beyond the requirements.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 0-2 weeks

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

Expectations for assignments were not as clear as the home campus. I enjoyed the mix of classroom experiences and field trips.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

The library and computer rooms were very small. The kitchen did not have proper utensils to eat with. The administration was always there to help with any questions or concerns.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

We did not have a dryer, but we definitely got our money's worth. Our landlords were very accommodating.

* Food:

Eat at home mostly because it saves money. Do most of your shopping at Tesco's if you can.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

The trip to Scotland was my favorite. They should have gone to Liverpool like they were originally supposed to.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? 100 pounds
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Eat most of your meals at home and pack your lunches

Language

How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? None
