My Time In London Past Review
By Melanie S (Television-Radio, Ithaca College) for
Ithaca College: London - Ithaca College London Center
I feel a lot more ready to live independently after school because of this program and it definitely made me want to return to work/live there in the future.

Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
I liked the method of work a lot better in London that what I've experienced at home. It was largely based on participation and papers instead of multiple tests and quizzes. We also used the community as a tool and took lots of field trips for almost every class. |
* Host Country Program Administration

* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
I lived in a flat with other Ithaca students that only took about 2 days to find because of the resources and names that the London Center gave us. It was right in London, really close to two different tube stops so getting to class wasn't a problem (unless the circle line was down). Our flat's owner was just on vacation so it was pretty well stocked, we only had to buy a few personal items for storage and bedding. |
* Food: |
|
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
Edinburgh was probably the most memorable trip we took with the London Center. The most memorable event was probably the Royal Wedding and taking a trip to Norway with friends. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
|
* Safety: |
|
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
|
Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? | I probably spent around 30-40 pounds on food and less on personal expenses. I mostly only bought clothes and souvenirs and whatever fees to get into attractions. |
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | Be prepared for rent and come with enough money to pay for 2 months rent when you first move in because you can only take so much out of the ATM every day (around 200 pounds). |
Language
How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? | None |
