Studying in London, living in West Kensington Past Review
By Kayla M (Drama/Theatre Arts and Stagecraft., Ithaca College) for
Ithaca College: London - Ithaca College London Center
I miss it so much, and learned so much. It's really hard to put it into words though. I met amazing people I will be friends with for life, and had a wonderful time. I'm also already scheming to get back there!

Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
I loved Brit A&A, Susan Bracken is an incredible professor, and was so knowledgeable about what was currently happening in the art world. Tim Kidd was Tim Kidd. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
Bill provided us with so much information. He was not only our program administrator, but a person we could go to for personal matters as well. |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
It was fantastic and in West Kensington. I paid 480 pounds a month and lived three other girls in a two bedroom flat.

It was great! |
* Food: |
Tesco was very inexpensive! |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
Pubs were great to hang out in with my American friends and British friends. We also went to parks and the South Bank a lot. Also coffee talks = THE BEST. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
|
* Safety: |
I never felt bothered, but I'm used to being in a city, so that might help. We were in fairly safe areas, as well, though. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
|
Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? | Food- 10-15pounds ($25 a week) Transportation- 60 pounds ($100) for Tube per month |
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | I was not expecting to have such a crazy commute for my internship, I always had to take commuter trains which are quite expensive. Get a youth rail card right away if you have to take the train. |
Language
How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? | None |
Language acquisition improvement? |
None really, because it was the same language. |
