My London Experience with an Internship Past Review

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
It's nice to say that I've traveled and seen London, but I didn't get to go outside of London much, so I wish I had been able to travel to more countries.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 0-2 weeks

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

I think the workload was fine for the summer session. We met a lot and talked about the history and culture of London, but we also got to go outside and walk around and see theater. I really enjoyed going outside and wish that we could have gone to more places. The problem about going in the summer with such a small group is that it's hard to find someone who wants to travel. I would have liked the class to go to more places (maybe Scotland or Ireland), but obviously with internships and the short amount of time in the program, that was difficult to arrange. I really did like the Brighton trip and spending days walking around different parts of London.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Everyone was very nice and tried to get issues resolved as soon as possible. Again, I thought that the internship coordinators could use a lot of improvement by being more organized and letting the students get involved more in the internship search and giving more feedback during the internship.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

The house was nice except that the previous tenants did not keep it clean, so there were a lot stuck-on food and difficult things to clean after-the-fact. We also encountered a few mice and I found meal worms as I cleaned the day before we left.

* Food:

I wasn't very adventurous with my eating habits, but the food I found and that was provided to me was good.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

I liked most of my roommates. Since there were only five of us, we all lived together. Sometimes it was difficult living with so many people, but overall it was fine.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

Everyone was enrolled in an international health insurance program, and I don't think one person went to see a doctor that went smoothly.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? No

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Estimate that everything you buy is at least one and a half times more in US Dollars than you're paying in pounds. Also be sure not to buy a lot of souvenirs that won't fit in your suitcase coming home.

Language

How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? None
