Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The workload was much o the same as in America. The major difference in teaching styles was the way that professors introduced and discussed information and key points. Most classes were taught where the professor would simply talk about topics and relate them to current events or popular events that have happened in the past. It was more difficult to tell what was important to know and what was not, but after a while one gets used to this way of teaching and I actually believe that it helped me to thrive once I learned how and what they wanted from their students.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Ithaca College was a great help in answering any questions or assisting with any of my needs.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

It was not difficult to find housing. However, my roommates and I did end up in a highly Arabic area. Our t.v. was not even in English. I would suggest students doing more research on the different areas of London before going. Also, I would rather have had faculty recommend areas to live, as well as caution about certain areas.

* Food:

Quality of food was decent. Things did go bad more quickly. Also, possibly do research on the different nutrition labels if that concerns you. Nutrition labels and facts are different than America's.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

The field trips and walks offered were very influential and I would definitely recommend them.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

n/a

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? No

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? Each week I probably spent about 50-100 pounds on food and personal expenses.
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Bring A LOT of money. Especially if you would like to travel, be able to shop, and enjoy the culture by eating out and going to museums and such.

Language

How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? None
If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition?

A Look Back

* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? I would definitely recommend study abroad to anyone and everyone! I would suggest looking into all possibilities however, and not merely chosing a program because it is directly linked with your university.
